Knowing God Via Story-Telling — R. Clapp

Christianity, like the Judaism that is its parent or older sibling, has never believed in universal common sense.  The Jews knew that Yahweh, a particular God, was not known simply by virtue of the knower being human, or observing the stars, or watching how animals treat one another.  Instead, Yahweh was known through the telling of the story of how God led the Israelites out of Egypt and a worship which remembered and reenacted that story.  Christians, to learn who God is and what God’s ways are, look to the same story, but through the later story of Jesus of Nazareth.
