The One True Scandal

Donald Trump’s “locker room talk” is horrible but not at all shocking.

Hillary Clinton’s political surgical taking out of Bernie Sanders is also horrible.

And many, many more examples could be stacked up under each name.  There is no surprise in any of these things.

What is truly scandalous is that Christians continue to attach their hopes to either of these two people–or to anyone in Washington.

We have a King.  He is our hope.

  1. Well I can not argue with your conclusion. Are you arguing that all sin is the same by not distinguishing between the known sins of the 2 worldly sinners that are running for president?
Thank you for your due diligence to this matter. 🙂

    • Actually, I have done a great deal of thinking about the differences between the sins of Trump and (the) Clinton(s). I have also thought about the differences between me and either of them… which are not nearly as great as I wish they were. Makes me mindful of a quote I recently read about our failure to live up to the standard of God’s glory:
“The harlot, the liar, the murderer are short of it; but so are you. Perhaps they stand at the bottom of a mine, and you are on the crest of an Alp; but you are as little able to touch the stars as they.” — Bishop Handley Moule
Many times in my life, I have seen myself in comparison to some other sinner and had to face the fact that the only difference between them and me is that they refuse to own their own $#^*.
Here, though, we are looking at another difference. I am not running for the office of President of the United States. While I do not want to be guilty of self-righteous condemnation of another (Rom. 2:1), I have to say: Neither of these people should be president.

Let me be clear: Before the race even got going last year, there was little chance I was going to be voting in the national election. For many months, there has been no chance whatsoever. I will probably vote for some of the local issues here in Oregon, but that’s about it. The fact is, though, that I do not believe my hope is in Washington… or Salem… or City Hall. So I don’t believe the lie that participation in the American electoral process is what gives me my identity, voice, significance,… whatever.

I know there are some Christians out there who are refusing to withdraw their support for Trump even now. It is my opinion that they have bought into the lie that the American electoral process is their hope and security. That is why, out of desperation to prevent Clinton from reaching the Oval Office (which is probably going to happen anyway), they are willing to get behind a monster of a man.
But think of what these Christians are teaching their children: (1) Faith in God is not sufficient; our political involvement here in America is of the utmost importance. (2) To their sons: It is okay to objectify and demean women if not even sexually assault them. (3) To their daughters: When push comes to shove, your honor does not matter as much as my political panic (cp. Lot’s attitude toward his daughters). And if you are ever sexually assaulted, whether verbally or physically, you better hope it isn’t by an important and powerful man; because if it is, you will have to forget being defended. He is just too important.

  2. Well I want to thank you for your response. As time will permit,I will also respond. I see, and understand your point of view, and definitely agree with you spiritually, and biblically. I agree with you unequivocally about your stance against any man or woman who subjugates or perverts another. I am glad that you brought up the point of the natural sinner often holding himself with pride in higher esteem over another.
I have done a fair amount of research, and found that in spite of Trump being a carnal man, many of the Johnny come lately accusations by the main stream lying media owned by only 6 giant corporations repeats lies over and over again until many believe the deception. I have found time after time that their reports are unfounded and erroneous.
That must be understood or we are not operating from a true paradigm. Satan is working over time to sling mud around to confuse, and undermine. Of course it is paramount that our hope is only in the Lord Jesus Christ, and His incredible and profound promises. All glory to God! Amen.
I look forward to further dialogue.

      • I looked at your comment on TGC, although I did not have time to reference the scripture you left yet. In the meantime, what is your response to identifying the enemy? In this case, Satan using the media, and political machine to sling accusations around to confuse, and undermine “Christians”?
Having said that, no man except the one and only God man Jesus Christ is the blameless answer. Even if Trump, a fallible sinful human being exercises executive power according to God’s plan to promote righteousness, the biblical future history is still inevitable. For now . . .
